If you owned the original Xbox console then you may have felt haunted from time to time. When you were alone in your room getting ready to go to sleep you may have thought you were going crazy or being visited by a ghost. Well, we hope it didn’t keep you up countless nights in fear because now, years later, we can confirm you were perfectly sane. Actually we have no idea if you were sane or not but those voices you heard, we can explain. Read on to find out Xbox’s little secret.
Larry Hryb is the director of programming for the Xbox Live. He recently revealed that if you left your Xbox on the dashboard doing nothing, after a while some eerie sounds would play. Those sounds were recordings from Apollo’s mission conversations. Xbox took the sounds and tweaked them a little to make them into the menu sounds.
The recordings are publicly available so Microsoft was able to play with them at will. As far as we know there is no such easter egg on the Xbox One or any other device but who knows, Hyrb may have a few more surprises for us in years to come.
So if you ever thought spacemen were talking to you in the middle of the night, it turns out you were right, after all, its just that they were part of your Xbox menu. The Xbox launched in 2001 so if it has taken all these years for you to find out the truth then we are sorry if it caused any trauma. Hopefully, this is just a fun fact to learn.
The Xbox was Microsoft’s first entry into a competitive gaming market. While other players were on the 6th generation console, Microsoft was on its first. While the device didn’t come close to the sales of the Sony Playstation 2 at the time, it did well enough to become serious competition and push Microsoft to invest further in the gaming space.
